North West Europe 1945 - Lucky 7th

Lucky 7th was the scenario used to demonstrate Megablitz at Salute 2005. The scenario dealt with an attempt by two US Armored Divisions to capture the sole remaining intact bridge across the Rhine.

Background to the battle

In the last months of the Second World War the Allies were pushing back the German defenders on all fronts. In the West the Rhine was the last major barrier that needed to be crossed before the Allies would be able to enter the German heartland.

Map of the battlefield.

Two US Armored Divisions - the 7th and 9th - have been tasked to capture the last remaining intact bridge across the Rhine. Whichever division gets there first will secure a lasting place in American military history, whilst the other will no doubt only feature as a footnote.
