The rain crashed into the ground at an alarming rate. The only other distinguishable sound was of windscreen wipers screeching in pain. I looked around this old decaying street. Its harsh exterior, grey cold and slightly claustrophobic. A few cars honked their horns in the far distance, for some unimaginable reason. I was oblivious to all the sounds of the world except for the haunting sound of the rain. As strange as it seems, in a world as strange as this, the sound of a lone violin seemed to cut through the darkness. The sounds all around seemed to add to its already lamenting music. It seemed all at once alien but part of this world. The notes, that seemed to sail through the air, touched my soul. I walked down the many grey streets, bewitched by the tune and determined to find its source. As I approached it, it seemed ever more further away. The notes pulling every string of my heart until it seemed that they would snap. I entered a corridor, and followed the dim lighting, to the unknown beauty ahead. There was one door at the end, small, black, misshapen. The tension became all the more unbearable as I ran to the door. I swung the door open, hoping to find what I had been searching for all this time, but all I saw was me.
And she sees the light of the dusk fade like so many things had faded in her life, the wind blew cool upon her face as she closed her eyes to the surrounding world. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly as if in a sigh. Out here in the silence the girl could be free, could be herself. No act was needed now, no one to please except herself. "I'm free!" she shouted to world, then lay silent as if waiting for a reply. Her past life no longer mattered, and would no longer rule her life. Now there were no ties, no obligations. All that mattered now was she. For once in her life she was truly happy, for soon she would be no more, at least, no more to this world.
He stood there in the dark, in all silence apart from the sound of the wind blowing his clothes to and fro. She could see his eyes, dark and piercing, they seemed to look into her very soul, she hoped they did. It was that which had first drawn her, that and his pale face, his cheeks which seemed carved out of ivory and as cold as marble. She was still not sure, whether what she thought of him, was out of lust or love, but still she was happy with her decision. It was the answer, it would take away her pain, she was sure of that much. How easy it would be, a life without pain, without illness, the ability to control all those she had once feared, but fears no more.
"Are you ready?" he asked.
"I have been ready, all my life".
"Then it shall be done".
"No more pain?" she asked.
"No more pain for the rest of eternity".
She smiled as he drew closer to her, as his lips parted and showed bright, by the moonlit rays, the whiteness of his teeth. How sharp they were, how pointed, and how exquisitely devilish. His eyes seemed evermore bright and wide, they almost glowed an incandescent red.
"No pain" he said.
"No pain" she whispered, as his teeth dug deep into her neck and drew her life's blood drop by drop. It felt like no ecstasy she had ever known, more real than any fantasy she had ever dreamt, more fulfilling than her mind could take, she was overwhelmed. She became dizzy from the sensation and the increasing loss of blood, but cared so very little.
He had finished his sustenance, he took her body into his arms and laid her softly on the floor.
His long hands caressed her hair. She looked up at him with love in her eyes but she could not speak for her weakness. He looked deep into her eyes and said "There will be no more pain for you my love, only me". And with that he held her in his arms until her heart beat no more.
