Now works in Windows Vista

This version of Antioch is for users of Windows NT, 2000, XP and Vista, and Word 2000, 2002 (Office XP), 2003 and 2007.

The Hebrew side of Antioch 2 allows the typing of vowel points and full cantillation marks, all of which are automatically positioned by a special OpenType font. With Windows XP and Word 2002 or later, you can type any combination of marks that is found in the Bible, including the complex BHS text. Windows 2000 and Word 2000 do not allow some of the more exotic combinations but are fine for less extreme use.

Warning: if you have Windows 95, 98 or ME, and/or Word 97, you should not download this program. You should use the original version, Antioch 1.

Antioch 2 may be installed on top of an existing version of Antioch 1 or 2 and will replace it. Your existing registration will be preserved. However, you can't reinstall Antioch 1 without first uninstalling Antioch 2.

After installing Antioch, you should open Word and go to Greek -- Preferences -- Keyboard. Click on the 'Load' button, and this will import the keyboard layout you used for Greek in the previous version of Antioch (if any).

If you are installing Antioch on a computer where no previous installation exists, you will need to go to Greek -- Preferences -- Keyboard and choose your keyboard layout from the options. You need to make a selection for each of the four areas of the keyboard, even if you want to leave it as it is. In this way, Antioch learns about your national keyboard layout and adapts itself to fit.

Please note that if you want to use the Hebrew side of Antioch, before installing it you should make sure that your copies of Windows and Word have support for right-to-left languages installed. For help with installation in Windows 2000 and XP, see Windows help under 'To install complex script and right-to-left language files', which can be found by starting help and typing 'Hebrew'. After enabling the languages, while you are still in the Regional and Languages Options dialog box, click on 'Details', then on 'Add', and select the Hebrew keyboard from the list.  For Word, go to the Windows Start menu, then to Programs -- Microsoft Office Tools -- Microsoft Office XP Language Settings.
In Vista, you also need to enable Hebrew, but this is chosen from the normal Windows list of languages and there is no need to enable complex scripts.

In Antioch, you will also need to select a Hebrew keyboard with Hebrew -- Preferences -- Keyboard; we recommend that you read the relevant parts of the manual before doing this.

Special notes for Windows Vista users

Vista has a feature called User Account Control, which by default is enabled. When you want to do almost anything serious, it darkens the screen and asks you if you really want to do this. When you run the Antioch installer for Vista, if UAC is enabled it can do one of several things: for example, ask you if you want to proceed, and leave you in peace; or stick up an immediate message saying 'Installation failed'. If the latter happens, go to Control Panel -- User Accounts and turn User Account Control off. Restart the computer and run the Antioch installer again.

In Vista, the Antioch help file doesn't work, since it is of an obsolete type. You can fix this problem with a Microsoft patch for Vista, downloadable from here. Of the two files offered, the first one is for ordinary 32-bit Vista; the second, with '64' in the file name, is for 64-bit Vista. If you don't know whether you have 64-bit Vista, almost certainly you don't, since Vista has to be deliberately upgraded to the 64-bit version.

Special note for Word 2007 users

During the installation of Antioch 2, at one point a small Word document headed 'Please wait ...' appears on the screen. In Word 2000-2003, the document should vanish in a few seconds. In Word 2007 you will get a security warning at the top of the window saying that the document contains macros, and that they have been disabled. Click on 'Options', select 'Enable this content', and click the OK button. When you have done this, the document will disappear and installation will continue.

This version is the fourth to include Hebrew. The Greek side has been in use for well over two years, and all faults in it that have appeared during that time have been corrected in the new version. Please report any problems to me at  hancock@dircon.co.uk.

Antioch 2 uses a new version of its usual font, which is now simply called Vusillus (not Vusillus Old Face). The main purpose of this font is to enable right-to-left Hebrew, so if you prefer you can revert to the old font, or choose any other suitable font, by adjusting the settings in Greek -- Preferences -- Text. The installer gives only the italic version of the font. The regular version is distributed to registered users only, when they first register -- or if updating Antioch, they can get a copy by writing to me at hancock@dircon.co.uk.

Antioch 2 costs the same as Antioch 1, and you can pay for it at a secure site linked to the main Antioch web page. This page is for registering both versions of Antioch. There is no need to specify which version you are registering, and you will be sent the fonts for both versions. If you have already registered Antioch 1, you don't need to pay to register this version, even on a new computer. Just write to me, and I will send you new registration files. If your email address has changed since you registered, please tell me what the old address was.

There are also new versions of the Greek and Hebrew AutoCorrect lists, which makes it easier to cope with the separate AutoCorrect lists for each language in Word 2000-2003. These are for use with Antioch 2 only: there are lists for Antioch 1 on the Antioch 1 page.
